What is Pilates?

Pilates is a method of exercise and physical movement designed to stretch, strengthen, and balance the body.  Pilates yields numerous benefits such as increased lung capacity and circulation through deep, healthy breathing, strength and flexibility of the abdomen and back muscles, coordination-both muscular and mental, and improved posture and balance. Bone density and joint health improve, and many experience positive body awareness for the first time. Pilates teaches balance and control of the body.

Levels: 

Beginner/Intermediate: I do ask that you attend at least three of my Beginner/Intermediate classes before attending higher level classes.  In these classes I take time to introduce you to the terminology and basic positions.  Even if you have done Pilates before you will benefit from the Beginner/Intermediate classes.

Intermediate/Advanced:  At this level you will be introduced to more challenging work and not much time is spent teaching the basic positions. 

What you will need to bring with you:

  • Water to drink after the class

  • A towel

  • (optional) A yoga or other mat

Overall my Pilates workout is challenging for all fitness levels, easy to follow and enjoyable.
